Dreams: A Never Ending Source of Ideas

This weeks Goal: 0/7,000 words written
Accomplishments: Organized Dream Journal, Transcribing Notebooks (10 pages typed)
Reading: Writing for the Web 3.0 (Rating: Meh)

Unfortunately, my weekly quota was not met. But to be fair I did dig up some notes and set that up in an organized sort of fashion. There was lots of interesting ideas that I may use in the future.

I’ve also started transcribing my various notebooks (there’s a good 10, 200page notebooks full of stuff) so that I could have a digital backup and print up a legible hard copy when I’m through. Another interesting source for ideas, though most of it is going to be tossed I think. I may share a few scenes or ideas here, I haven’t quite decided yet.

Since most of my stories are derived from my dreams, my Dream Journal is very powerful resource for me. I encourage every creative mind to keep one on hand.

Creating Your own Dream Journal
I used to keep a rather expensive looking Notebook solely for my dreams. I’ve been keeping one since the age of 12 – coincidentally I had already been writing and story telling for a few years before hand. The downside is, being a 12 year old, I’d lose it – often. So once I bought my PC in 2000, I immediately transcribed everything into it, logging them by year and theme. (more…)

Thoughts on Freelance Writing

This weeks Goal: 4,000/7,000 words written

Accomplishments: Completed 1st Draft of Rebirth: Book 1 (Planned in the foreseeable future: 3 Novels)

Chapters 5 through 8 have gone through their 2nd Draft stage. Things are developing nicely, though I wonder if I’ll be able to break away and do another Rebel scene. It’s important that I get to that at some point before the Construct manages to escape the Council’s control.

Meanwhile, I’ve been doing research on freelance writing. Once more this career choice isn’t for the feint of heart (for those who like to eat regularly it would seem). Needless to say, I’m not going to quit my day job to pursue this. If I can eventually go into becoming a full time writer, Great! But otherwise I’m okay with writing as a hobby (except for the fact that this hobby is more like a need –like breathing-)

The only type of writer I’d want to be is a Novelist. Short stories don’t pay well, and I don’t seem to be capable of writing them. Novelists on the other hand seem to have the major pay off if you can make it that far. You’ll never strike it rich off of one novel, so banish that idea right away.

Next on my list of research was editing. Stupid me got a book one editing memos which (correct me if I’m wrong here) is nothing like a novel.

Finally, I’ve written a full first draft of the Rebirth Series but I won’t touch it again until I’m done with this novel. I have a few ideas floating around for other books for the series, but unless I stumble upon the seed that I have stored somewhere, new drafts aren’t likely to be written.
