I’ve been dreaming again. As I’ve mentioned before I’m one of those fortunate dreamers who get to dream in story arcs. It’s much easier to write summaries than it is to write a full 300 page novel though. Still I log them away as diligently as I can, which a little note attached to it telling me what I had intended to use the idea for.
No real progress this week, mainly due to trips to the hospital and other immediate concerns to take care of. I’ve been having a hard time with the re-write of chapter 1. Though I like the way it’s worked itself out in the time line, I find the wording forced. Originally I wanted to have my first chapters as a dialogue between the main character, Astral, and the reader. At this time I’m not sure that will be possible. She has a very direct way of speaking and to go a lyrical description could potentially fall outside of her character. I’m sure I can work something out, maybe I just need to put myself into her mind set. It also comes as a question of how much to tell. I’m thinking at this point I can stick with what’s relevant to this story in the here and now, and move into more detail as the series progresses. That sounds like a good idea.
If I’m still having problems with this chapter next week, I’ll just carry on to the next set. I have a bit more fleshing out of Dezmond and Mathias and perhaps the old Necromancer. It would nice to get through the first act, some 18,000 words later.
Better luck Next week.
