I’m at 1,000 words an hour regardless of flow. Thank God! My ultimate Goal is to hit my former stride of 10 page an hour like I used to do in High School. Could you imagine? this book would fly by! 10 pages @ 500 words per page = 5,000 words an hour that I used to do. 
I’d have this book done in 24 days if I only wrote for an hour a day @ 5,000 words an hour; 24hrs or two days if I sat down and really ploughed my way through it. It’s mind boggling what I used to be able to do.
After reading some of my old stuff, I still find it good if only a little convoluted; too much story for short stories which ranged from 10-30 pages each; not exactly publishable material. Now I concentrate on flow and visualization – story beats and character development. In my early days of writing, it was all story and prose with no particular rhythm or pacing. I’d like to think that I’ve improved over the years.
More importantly I’ve stopped wasting my time writing fan based stuff and started on my own work which proved to be so much more challenging. Writing is definitely not for the feint of heart or for those who fear work.
I was calculating what I want this weekend’s word count to look like, which is how all this came about. I made mental notes that certain scenes will need to change in order to accommodate what I need for my story. Of Course, setting up a desired word count per chapter is only a guideline; I have to remind myself of this quite often. With four chapters in the first Act I need roughly 5,000 to 7,500 words per chapter. If I write more, great! It means there could be fewer words in another chapter…maybe. Right now, I just want to get a good hold on the story. Final Word count can be tallied later when I need to start editing it and throwing all my hard work away. Why not? I’ve already killed 3 drafts and 9 chapters. I’ve re-written chapter 1 like three times by now. I should be able to handle it later with out too many tears.
For now I’m only thinking of Act 1 – which I want to see a decent 2nd Draft by the end of the weekend.
