While looking for a job in a foreign country, I have managed to put in some time into my writing. Not as much time as I would have liked, but time nonetheless. I’m such a procrastinator.
I did the read over the entire novel and took notes here and there in regards to the direction that I wanted to take and severe as well as minor changes that needed to be done. Then I re-read chapter 1, going over it with a fine tooth comb, while keeping my previous notes in mind, listed scene extensions and character changes. Nicholi is not someone that I feel that I can sympathise with, he ends up a man put in a situation that he has no control over. The character transformation leaves one thinking at the end of the chapter that there’s no way that Nicholi is this big baddy that everyone thinks.
Chapter one grew from 4,000 words to 17,000 words and had to be split into two separate chapters. I like to work in themes. This means that my previous chapter 2 is now chapter 3.
I like writing for Mathias, he’s an interesting character in my opinion. On the off-set he seems to just coast going in whatever direction life takes him until he has to make a choice. I had wanted him to struggle internally about the choice that he had to make, but he seemed to embrace it, quite willing to give up everything that he was trained to hate in order to understand it. This chapter also grew from 4,000 to 10,000 words.
Now I’m at chapter 4, which had previously been a part of chapter 5 which is now a stand alone piece. At a mere 1,500 words, I want to develop the Council members, not in its entirety but enough to understand how they came to be in power and who they are basically – their contribution to the world. Of course I then have Mallack and his grand plan, plus his test that should be demonstrated as oppose to just mentioned.
Only 11 more chapters to go after that.
